MILWAUKEE, WI - More than 250 children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee received free dental care this week at a most unlikely location: Miller Park. This unique clinic setting was made possible by a contribution to Brewers Charities from outfielder Mike Cameron. His gift brought the TeamSmile program to Milwaukee on Thursday, July 23, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., in the Brewers Conference Center on the Left Field/Terrace Level in Miller Park.
A group of preselected children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee received dental health education, screening and treatment by local dental professionals, who donated approximately $240,000 in dental services. The program also has an environmentally conscious element in that it is completely paperless.
TeamSmile is a non-profit organization which teams up with major sports organizations to provide quality dental care to underserved populations while encouraging volunteerism within the dental community. TeamSmile partners with Willie Wilson Baseball, an organization created by former Major Leaguer Willie Wilson who played 19 seasons in the big leagues with Kansas City, Oakland and Chicago-NL. Wilson was in Milwaukee to greet the kids who participated in the clinic at Miller Park. He says the goal of the program is to change children's lives, one smile at a time. The children also received complimentary tickets to an upcoming Milwaukee Brewers game, courtesy of Brewers Charities.
With the help of local dental professionals, Sullivan-Schein, ColgateĀ® and select dental insurance companies and manufacturers, TeamSmile provides free oral health education, screening and treatment for children who might not otherwise receive it. This is the first year the Brewers and Brewers Charities have partnered with TeamSmile.
